Keeping Children Safe

Child Safety at Our Academy

Every child’s safety is of paramount importance to our academy and we have clear and consistent procedures in place to ensure that each child is safe. We meet all of the statutory requirements and regularly monitor safeguarding / child protection provision.

We believe that safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone. Michaela Webb (Executive Principal) is designated to lead on all safeguarding matters, including on-line safety. She is supported by a team who meet regularly and deputise in her absence from the academy.

We have a safeguarding team who meet regularly for safeguarding to monitor the impact of what we have in place; also ensuring we adhere to all legislation. We co-opt other members of staff onto the team when discussing children with Special Educational Needs and pastoral care. The safeguarding lead for the Board of Trustees attends some meetings as an observer but does not have access to individual child and family information.

All staff undertake annual training in the field of Safeguarding, on-line safety and access further, additional training throughout the year.

We follow and adhere to the guidelines and best practice. Below is an overview of the areas of school life which ensure the safety of our children.

  • Safer recruitment of staff â€“ including training of interview panel, CRB disclosures and all DBS checks.
  • Clear and regularly reviewed policies for child protection, behaviour, safeguarding and many other related policies.
  • Site safety â€“ All visitors report to the main office in order to gain access to the building.
  • We hold regular discussions with the children regarding what is in place at our school to keep them safe and to improve awareness of their personal safety, including what to do and who to speak to if they have any worries or concerns.
  • We have very high standards of behaviour and our behaviour across the school is very good.
  • We have a clear rewards and sanctions policy which enables children to be clear about their responsibilities with regards to behaviour. We work in partnership with our parents/carers if there are any concerns.
  • We don’t tolerate bullying and we act swiftly using our clear anti-bullying policy and procedures if there are any concerns or issues
  • Educational visits are always risk assessed. We ensure the ratio of adults to children meets or exceeds requirements so that your children can enjoy their school trips!
  • We have two members of staff in each academy who are fully trained First Aiders and the greater majority of staff are trained in Emergency Aid. At the Infant Academy we have pediatric trained First Aiders.  Children are always seen if they are hurt, report they are hurt or feeling poorly. As well as medical attention, a kind word and TLC are also applied!
  • We are inclusive academies. Our staff and SENDCO work closely with our children and their families to support any additional needs effectively.
  • Health and Safety is rigorous at all times. The Vice Executive Principal ensures that policies, practice and procedures are up to date and trialed regularly.
  • We teach the children many aspects of their personal safety through our curriculum. Discussions on safety measures and how they can keep themselves safe take place regularly.
  • We provide an annual safeguarding report to the Board of Trustees. This ensures all aspects of safety provision are up to date.
  • We have a strong belief in partnership working with our families. Our open door policy means that effective communication can take place.
  • We work with Norfolk Children’s Services and other external services to provide any additional support to our families and children if and when it is needed.
